Recently Commercial Design Services (CDS) enjoyed a weekend retreat at The Renaissance Vinoy Resort in St. Petersburg to celebrate being in business 30 years! The location was significant as it was just a few steps from where owner, Stewart Davis started his career in interior design and commercial furnishings. In the 80’s the Vinoy was vacant and being considered for demolition. Since then it has been restored to its original glory and is located on the National Register of Historic Places. Davis shared of CDS’ early days; challenges to put together financing and long days that included unloading trucks in the morning, meeting with clients in the afternoon and working through the evening to prepare drawings and quotes to support our clients. Since those humble beginnings, CDS has grown to a $65 million commercial furnishings dealership with locations in Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville and Tallahassee with 110 employees. Davis spoke about how critical long term relationships with clients and suppliers are for the business to prosper and the unique culture of CDS. As he prepared his remarks he thought of another acronym for CDS: Culture Drives Success! Davis shared his vision for CDS’ future which will include a greater emphasis on architectural products and more active leadership with his daughter Jessica Davis Easterla and son, Tyler Davis. After sharing remarks on the past, present and future the employees did a scavenger hunt around the Vinoy Resort and nearby areas to promote creativity and team building. All employees and their guest stayed at the Vinoy for the weekend, closing out the celebration with a dinner cruise on Tampa Bay with much merriment to celebrate 30 years of success!
