Gilbane Building Company has been selected by the City of Orlando to provide design-build services for the expansion and renovation of an existing 1926 Mediterranean Revival architecture building. Designated as an historic landmark in 1995, the building was originally constructed as a school. The facility will be repurposed as a youth and family recreation center and house the services provided by the City’s Downtown Recreation Complex. The project includes 30,000 SF of renovations and new construction with an addition of a gymnasium. "This is a very important project for both the city and the community to which it will serve," says Mackenzie Carolan, CREW Orlando membre and Gilbane's development manager in Orlando. The new center, when it opens, will offer the full range of after-school and summer programs including the recreation sports program the After-School All-Stars program, Parramore Kidz Zone and the Orlando Pottery Studio.
