Congratulations to our 2019 Award Winners!

On November 5, 2019, The Orlando Museum of Art came alive with the 16th Annual CREW Orlando Celebration of Champions.  The theme this year was Denim and Diamonds and our guests did not disappoint. Everyone arrived dressed to impressed as we gathered to honor the many nominees who exhibit excellence, spirit, drive, and sense of community within the CREW organization.  While all nominees were more than deserving, here are the winning highlights of the evening: 

Award Winners and Nominees: 

Rising Star -  honors a new CREW member, in their first year of membership, who has made noticeable contributions to CREW. 

  • Winner: Barbara Richardson - Barbara became a new member this year and has actively participated in the Sponsorship Committee. She's always looking for ways to incorporate other CREW members into deals and tries to recruit new members and sponsors from her current contacts. In addition, Barbara drives from Lakeland to attend our events and even brings many of her BHI coworkers to our mixers. She's been a great asset to our chapter and we fully look forward to her continued participation next year. 

  • Nominees: Danielle Barkett, Miriah Ekus, Melissa Cosgrove, Gabriela Ferreira, Trish Ladan, Andria LaRocco, David Meek, & Barbara Richardson. 

Esprit de Coeur - is designed to recognize an active CREW member who continually puts their heart and soul into CREW Orlando. The individual has demonstrated a strong commitment to furthering CREW Orlando’s goals and purposes; has enthusiastically participated in CREW Orlando events; and has promoted CREW Orlando as an organization in a recognizable way.

  • Winner: Chiara Clatterbuck - Chiara has shown dedicated commitment to CREW Orlando this year with her Communications Board appointment, committee development and engagement, as well as to CREW Network with her additional volunteer efforts to make convention an outstanding event (putting together and co-chairing two learning excursions for our guests as well as leading one of our dine-arounds).Chiara also elected to complete CREW Network's Leadership Certificate program on her own this year (self paid) because she believes in its value and professional development benefits. Chiara symbolizes CREW's ability to grow, build, flourish and encourage the development of women in the commercial real estate industry.

Future Leader of the Year - The Future Leader of the Year Award honors a current CREW member, 35 years of age or under, who has made noticeable contributions to CREW.

  • Winner: Miriah Ekus - Miriah is active in all of the future leaders' events and activities. She chairs the Mentor Lunches sub-committee, which facilitates one-on-one time between young CREW members and experienced industry leaders. She also helped arrange the Visionaries of Central Florida event, in conjunction with ULI, BOMA, and NAIOP. She is a member of the member services and membership committees. She attends every monthly luncheon and the marketplace lunches so that she can further her development and make valuable connections with local CREW members. Miriah is the utmost professional and is the future of commercial real estate.

  • Nominees: Arsen Avakyan, Hanna Edeback, Miriah Ekus, Alex Lanauze, Sarah Riffe, Amy McCook

Entrepreneurial Spirit - An entrepreneur is one who renews society and invigorates industry by seeking out and capitalizing on opportunities. Nominees are risk takers and are willing to step outside the box to create something new or different, either as business owners or working within a larger organization. The Entrepreneurial Spirit Award honors a CREW Orlando member who has achieved a unique career success or milestone as the result of an exceptional entrepreneurial spirit.

  • Winner: Michelle Lerner-Konopatski - Since coming on board in May 2017, Michelle has solidified herself as a leader and guiding force for the firm. She's grown her team from two to eleven in just two short years, and was promoted to Principal in May 2019, all while securing major project commissions, including the interior design of the new AC Hotel being developed as part of the Church Street Plaza project. During her relatively short tenure with Baskervill, she's dramatically increased their brand presence in the Orlando market, strategically developing key relationships and partnerships with firms in the area. Michelle's drive and leadership, partnered with her engaging and thoughtful personality, have made her a critical part of Baskervill's growing leadership team.

Company of the Year - The Company of the Year Award honors a general or affiliate-member company that has made noticeable contributions to CREW Orlando.

  • Winner: Greenberg Traurig - Greenberg Traurig has been a partner sponsor since 2016 and has again committed to the Partner level for 2020. The company has four members representing them in CREW Orlando. Courtney Keller currently serves as the co-director of Sponsorship, and has previously served as Director of UCREW. In addition to their partner sponsorship, Greenberg Traurig has made other contributions to CREW Orlando, including providing meeting space, food and beverage for Sponsorship meetings, and hosting its space for Sponsorship events. Greenberg Traurig has reserved several tables for the CREW Orlando luncheons this year. Greenberg Traurig was also a CREW Network Bronze level sponsor for 2019, and seven of Greenberg Traurig’s attorneys attended the CREW Network Convention held in Orlando this year.

Outstanding Networking Achievement - The Outstanding Networking Achievement of the Year Award recognizes an outstanding networking experience between two or more members of CREW Orlando and/or CREW Network. Nominees must be active members, in good standing, of CREW Orlando and/or CREW Network at the time of the deal and at the time of nomination. Nominations in this category are not limited to real estate transactions, but may include career development opportunities, such as significant business referrals.

  • Winner: Equinox Development: Kirkman Station - The Equinox Development of Kirkman Station is a true example of a full real estate cycle deal, with eight CREW Orlando members involved. Amy McCook and the Equinox team were interested in purchasing and developing the vacant land; Amy engaged Nikki Carolan of Winderweedle, Haines, Ward & Woodman (representing the buyer) to negotiate with Vicki Berman of Dean Mead (representing the seller) on the purchase and sale of the vacant land. Anna Long with Dean Mead was brought in to resolve water connection issues with the City of Orlando for both the seller and the buyer. ECS Limited (Ivona Minossora) provided the phase 1 and environmental reports to Equinox for the purchase and development of the vacant land. The purchase of vacant land closed through Vicki Berman, with the title written through Fidelity National Title (Shanna Cole, Mary Pat Dunleavy and Emily Smith). Nikki Carolan and Amy McCook worked on 3 leases for the site which included 24 Hour Fitness, Wawa & Arbys.  After the property was platted into 4 lots, the lots were sold one-by-one to third party investors, totaling over 18 million dollars, closed through Nikki Carolan with title written on Fidelity National Title.

  • Nominees: Bernhard Office, Land Purchase for National Pulse Memorial & Museum, Equity Partners: New Job Opportunity, Equinox Development: Kirkman Station, Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control Office Building, Old Town Kissimmee & ALIGHT Solutions

Economic & Community Involvement - Real estate projects can transform the built environment and have the power to transform and revitalize a community, often beyond the boundaries of the project. CREW Orlando members are involved in many aspects of a deal: conceptualizing, designing, financing and constructing. The Economic and Community Involvement Award honors CREW Orlando member(s) or company(ies) who played a pivotal role in a real estate project that had a significant and measurable positive impact on the Central Florida community. Nominee must include an active member, in good standing, of CREW Orlando.

  • Winner: Downtown Redevelopment West of I-4 – Laurie Botts: Laurie has been instrumental in the complete redevelopment of downtown west of I-4, starting with the Amway Center completed in 2010, the Creative Village which opened its first phase in 2019 and includes the University of Central Florida’s downtown campus, Exploria Stadium, which opened in 2017, multiple renovations to the former Citrus Bowl, now known as Camping World Stadium, and the creation of the Sports Entertainment District in conjunction with the Orlando Magic which will be completed in the next few years.

  • Nominees: Creation of the Curry Ford West District, Downtown Redevelopment West of I-4, Land Purchase for National Pulse Memorial & Museum, Learning Excursions for CREW Conventions, Orlando Magic Foundation Community Center

Woman of Influence - CREW Orlando’s Woman of Influence Award recognizes an exceptional female commercial real estate professional or industry executive who has demonstrated significant contributions to the Central Florida real estate community. She will have provided a powerful example for other professional women in our industry through her achievements within her own organization; her desire and ability to mentor others; and her continued personal investment in advancing women’s role in commercial real estate.

  • Winner: Laurie Botts - Laurie Botts is the Real Estate Division Manager for the City of Orlando. Major projects include site selection and acquisition of the Dr. Phillips Center for Performing Arts, the Orlando City Soccer stadium, Amway Center and Geico Garage, Creative Village infill redevelopment, Orlando Police Department headquarters, Orlando Fire Department stations, numerous Housing projects, roadways, and easements. She oversees management and operations of Dubsdread Golf Club and Orlando City Hall along with acquisition, disposition and redevelopment of former military base properties. Laurie is a graduate of University of Central Florida with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in both Public Administration and Speech Communications. She also earned a Masters’ Degree in Public Administration from UCF and was inducted in the Pi Alpha Alpha scholastic honor society. Laurie is an adjunct instructor in the College of Business where she teaches the Real Estate Appraisal and Valuation Class.

President’s Award - this award was added to our Celebration of Champions as a way of recognizing a member for extraordinary efforts that may not have fit perfectly in the other award categories recognized. It is given at the sole discretion of the President, and has traditionally been given to one member whose efforts not only help forward the mission of CREW Orlando, but also may have helped make the President’s job just a little bit easier along the way.

Legacy Member Award - Several years ago, CREW Orlando decided to recognize and honor those members and sponsors that have shown continued dedication and support of our mission. A legacy member is one who has been a member of CREW Orlando for 15 or more continuous years.
