A Message from CREW Orlando about Race and Diversity

June 29, 2020

CREW Orlando shares in the grief and sorrow of the deaths of Black Americans, including George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Elijah McClain and many others who came before them. Our organization stands in solidarity with the Black community in speaking out against systemic racism, racial injustice and violence, and we believe that Black lives matter.

CREW Orlando, and its global organization CREW Network, are committed to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) for our members. We recognize that it is critical to demonstrate our commitment through action. As an organization, we are actively seeking ways to improve inclusivity and elevate women of color, who have long been underrepresented in all facets of the commercial real estate industry.

In February 2020, CREW Network convened a DEI Task Force to begin working on a plan to create DEI resources and tools for chapters and their leadership, anticipated to be available to the individual chapters in Fall 2020.  In order to be prepared to implement these goals and objectives on a local level, CREW Orlando is forming a DEI committee consisting of CREW Orlando members to assist the leadership of CREW Orlando with Network’s suggestions as well as create measurable goals and strategies applicable to our local market.

If you have any interest in serving on this committee, please reach out to CREW Orlando Directors Cindy Campbell or Courtney Keller.  We anticipate releasing more information about this committee as well as resources and tools launched by CREW Network’s DEI Task Force in the upcoming months.  If you are a CREW Member, you can also assist CREW Orlando and CREW Network in monitoring the progress of certain DEI initiatives by completing your CREWbiz profile to include your ethnicity.  You can do this by logging onto your CREW Network account at www.crewnetwork.org, clicking “My Account,” selecting “About Me” and completing your profile.

We are deeply committed to purposefully embracing the principles of diversity and inclusion as an organization, and look forward to growing stronger and more dynamic by implementing the changes necessary to make these principles a priority.
