What skills do you believe are key to your success/or what specific skills do you say are key to success in your industry or discipline?
As a commercial real estate attorney, I think one of the most important skills is clear and consistent communication with clients. One of the most common complaints clients have about attorneys is that clients misunderstood their attorney, their attorney never followed up or their attorney was unable to be reached when the client needed to talk. Even a simple “I received your message and will be back in touch on X date” can make a difference to a client and make them feel heard.
What has been your greatest challenge in your career?
The greatest challenge in my career has been balancing raising two young children while keeping an upward trajectory in my career. I have come to accept that there is no perfect work/life balance. However, I have found that time management and planning in advance is critical to keeping it as balanced as possible.
In one sentence, what would be your advice to young woman entering the professional world?
My advice to young women entering the professional world would be to set boundaries early and learn to say ‘no’ when a task is not necessary or would not lead you to furthering your career goals.
