Barbie Schalmo, AICP
Associate Principal - Land Use & Market Strategies
Barbie Schalmo, AICP, leads the Land Use and Market Strategies practice at the C&S Companies as part of the national aviation planning group. She works with airports and other entities to craft innovative land development strategies by identifying market-based opportunities to generate revenue and support economic development through leveraging of real estate assets.
Her professional experience includes a broad range of consulting assignments for public and private clients across the country including commercial and general aviation airports, hospital and port systems, transit-oriented developments, and redevelopment projects. Most recently, the Arizona Chapter of the American Planning Association awarded Barbie and her team for their work with the City of Phoenix and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport on devising a Land Reuse Strategy to reimagine and reinvest in the future of neighborhoods between the downtown and airport.
Barbie is a Truman Scholar with a Master of City & Regional Planning degree from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and certified by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP). She serves on the steering group for C&S’s national aviation practice and helped found the C&S Women’s Network. She is a longtime member of CREW Orlando, having served previously on the Board and was named 2014 Member of the Year. Barbie is also a wife and mother of two young kids, loves to travel (with the kids!), grapples with work-life harmony, and has not figured it all out.
